Heartwood Color varies from white to pale yellow-brownish color, with very little or no discernible difference between sapwood and heartwood. The wood is typically straight grained. Growth rings are reported to be visible because of the contrast between the darker outer late wood and the lighter early wood. The wood is fine-textured. The material is reported to possess a natural luster. The wood is reported to dry rapidly and well, but requires some care to minimize defects.
There is little tendency for the wood to check and split during drying. Knots may split and loosen, and material with pronounced spiral grain may distort. The wood is reported to have very little natural resistance against attack by decay causing fungi. It is vulnerable to attack by longhorn and pinhole borer beetles, and by wood wasps. The sapwood is susceptible to attack by the common furniture beetle. The timber is reported to respond poorly to preservative treatment. The tree produces resin. Resin exuded through the bark of the tree is called Burgundy pitch, and is reported to have been used to produce plasters.Knotty wood is reported to require sharp cutting edges for best results, because tear may occur around knots in planning. Clear stock works easily with both hand and machine tools in planning, turning, boring, molding, and in most wood working operations to produce smooth and clean surfaces. The wood is reported to glue well. Polishing properties are reported to be good. The material is reported to have good staining characteristics. Varnishing properties are rated as good. The wood is reported to take paint well.Steam bending characteristics are rated as very poor. Strength properties are reported to vary widely and are dependent upon origin. It has medium bending strength in the air-dry condition (about 12 % moisture content). It is closer in strength to Mahogany than either Teak or White oak. It is weak in compression parallel to grain (maximum crushing strength). The wood is soft, and surfaces may dent easily. It also does not wear well and mars easily. Wood is low in weight and has average or medium density.

- 22 x 100 mm
- 19 x 100 mm
Most goods are shipped as unseasoned for economic reasons, we have also KD goods.
At the moment we are competitive in the unseasoned white wood pallet boards PL/VL. Our supply is better in KD spruce/pine material; these are used now mainly in the food industry etc. where higher quality pallets are required. We are shipping all sizes 10, 16, 19, 22 mm etc. Generally for any longer term trading deals, we can produce special sizes.
For panels we are dealing mainly with VI and PL/VL quality. We are also able to offer US (knotty free Pine) for the furniture industry.
The color of the seasoned heartwood is pale reddish-brown. The material is reported to season fairly rapidly, but is prone to sap stain. The wood should be dipped in anti-stain solution or kiln dried immediately after conversion. The heartwood is reported to have very little natural resistance to decay, and is vulnerable to insect attack. The timber is reported to absorb and retain sufficient amounts of preservatives, which allows it to be used for exterior applications such as utility posts, railway sleepers, and fences. The heartwood is reported to be moderately resistant to impregnation. The sapwood is treatable; The wood is resinous.Planning properties are rated as good.Molding characteristics are rated as good.Material containing high levels of resin may be difficult to glue. The timber is reported to have satisfactory polishing characteristics. The timber takes stain satisfactorily. Varnishing properties are reported to be satisfactory. Painting properties are rated as satisfactory. Steam bending characteristics are rated as poor.

here is great variability in density, strength properties, and wood characteristics such as, texture, and number and size of knots because Scots pine is distributed over a wide geographical range. It is not hard and can be dented and
